About Robert G. Millenky

Judge Millenky was appointed to the bench in 2001. He served initially in the Family and Criminal Divisions of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Camden Vicinage. Beginning in 2006, he served as a trial judge in the Civil Division, assuming the role of Presiding Judge of the Civil Division in Camden in 2012. He retired after a fifteen year judicial career. During his judicial career he managed and tried a wide range of cases, including commercial, contract, environmental, employment, LAD, land use, condemnation, personal injury, products liability, professional malpractice, and construction matters. In each case, he devoted substantial time towards exploring settlement as an alternative to trial and achieved notable and repeated success in moving parties towards reasonable and fair resolutions short of trial. On a near weekly basis, he presided over the jury and non-jury trials that proceeded when settlement was not feasible. In doing so, he developed a deep appreciation for the dynamics of trial and the implications of those dynamics for settlement. Following retirement, Judge Millenky returned to the bench on recall, and conducted hundreds of settlement conferences for the civil division in Camden.

Prior to his appointment, he served as Camden County Counsel for seven years, where he managed the office that handled the wide-ranging legal affairs of the County. Before that he maintained a private practice with several partners and also held a part-time appointment to the office of Camden County Counsel. Both at County Counsel and in private practice, he either directly litigated or managed cases that included labor, commercial, contract, construction, environmental, products liability, and personal injury matters. Additionally, he offered advice, counsel and guidance on governmental law and affairs. His experience in the public and private sectors entailed the regular representation of both plaintiffs and defendants. This generated a deep appreciation and respect for the dynamics that motivate each side in a dispute.

Judge Millenky has spoken at numerous seminars concerning trial practice and procedure and has served on various judicial committees. He received his law degree from Rutgers University and Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. He is admitted to practice law in New Jersey, the United States District for the District of New Jersey, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He is presently on inactive status in Pennsylvania.
